GVKC ROOKIE SCHOOL – April 19, 2025
9AM to 5PM
New to karting? Genesee Valley Motorsports Complex hosts & requires a Rookie Driving School for all new drivers.
Covered: Basics of driver safety, Track rules, Kart Maintenance, Safety Gear, what to expect on race day if you decide to race, safety gear, flags, driving rules. Pit & track safety rules, driver etiquette/sportsmanship, Sat practice days & Monday practice clinic days. Track walk orientation.
Lastly, you’ll get out on the track with coaching officials.
Rookie School Fees: Payment can be made at the track. Special prices for Rookie day: $40 for drivers rookies. All minors (& parents) need to sign the Parental Minor Consent Form at Registration, along with the regular sign in sheets. Pit Passes $10 for all non-drivers. 12 & under free (non-driver). All those that enter pits need to sign in and get a wristband. You can also sign up for memberships. Cards & phones preferred, or exact cash appreciated.
If it’s your child who is racing or just starting to practice, it’s very important that the parents attend all activities & learn not just about kart racing, but learn basic track rules that are in place for everyone’s safety.
Bear in mind that you don’t have to race. Practice days are equally enjoyable by some. Some may later decide to race, others maybe happy practicing. This course is designed for everyone just starting.
New drivers must be certified by a Track Driver Certifying Official if they decide to race. We realize people learn at different rates. The time this takes is variable depending on many factors & we’ve altered our requirements to take this into account.
What to bring:
Note-taking material or device
Racing chassis, racing engine, slick tires appropriate for asphalt. This is a real race track for race vehicles only. Not yard Karts, not knobby tires, not ATVs.
Driver’s suit or abrasion-resistant jacket & jeans (denim)
Full finger gloves
Full face helmet, preferably complying with NKA standards (see their website)
Neck brace and Chest Protector
High top sneakers, or racing boots. Must cover ankles.
Fuel & oil appropriate for your engine
Basic tools: box wrenches, socket set, pliers, screw drivers, allen wrenches, hammer.
We’ll advise you further on what other tools specific for running a kart would be helpful.
If you’d like to attend, please email geneseevalleymc@gmail.com. Payment cab be made at the track. Cards & phones encouraged (makes bookkeeping much easier!)
